This is part of the wooded area to the west of Shanagolden R2547 which can be seen in the top centre of the picture under the aircraft wing. The prominent farm just right and below centre is Knockbabooly East at R229489 and the two farms together left of centre are at R235491 . In the woodland at the bottom left the point where the prominent track changes direction is at R228492 . We are heading roughly north-east. Taken from a flight from Gatwick to Shannon that is about to land in the less usual north-easterly direction. This was the day before most European airspace was closed for six days due to an ash cloud caused by a volcanic eruption in Iceland.
